Patricia Ann (Crise) Whaley, age 66 of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital. Patty was born on October 26, 1946 in Reed City, MI to Glenn and Maxine (Fuller) Bluhm. She obtained a degree as a registered nurse from Ferris State University. Patty was employed by Mecosta County Medical Center where she worked in the OR for 30 years retiring in 2009.
On September 13, 1997 she married James H. Whaley Sr. in Big Rapids and have split residency between homes in Big Rapids and Reed City. Patty spent the summertime gardening and recently enjoyed quilting. She was a good cook, loved to read and spend time with her cats and dog.
Patty is survived by her husband of 15 years James of Big Rapids; two children, Lori (Roger) Nicklas of Hersey and Steve (Tamar) Crise of Reed City; two step-children, James (Judy) Whaley Jr. of Remus and Juli (Glenn) King of Washington, PA; seven grandchildren, Zachary Nicklas, Mercedes “Mehana” Rietow, Charlene (Leo) St. John, Kathryn Nicklas, Andrew Whaley, Sarah Nicklas and Nathan Whaley; one great-granddaughter, Aspen Leo Nicklas; three brothers, Glenn (Carol) Bluhm of Reed City, Darwin “Don” (Karen) Bluhm of Hersey and Gary (Jeanne) Bluhm of Big Rapids and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren, Alexander Johnson and Gabrielle Fulton.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon), and from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be held at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids.
